  • What happens if I don't pay my gym membership?

I moved to a different country and told my gym to cancel my membership. I signed a 3 year contract and all I did was a few months. I've gotten a couple letters saying I have to pay a $100 penalty or they're going to come after me through a 3rd party.

Are they really going to do so for $100? Should I even bother to pay?

  • Doing work for Americans from abroad?

    Hello

I live in Mexico, I own a sign making company and have a tourist visa. In some of my travels to the US I have made some networking and made some good relationships with some business owners who have asked for me to either design for them, or make the stuff they want and mail it to them. I charge them what I've seen is the market price for stuff, some have told me that I'm not cheap, but I'm really good and they want me to do their signs and have recommended me to their friends.

This seems to be growing and I would like to legitimize my business, I have no intentions of moving to America since all my family lives here and I'm pretty well stablished here.

    What are my options?

I was thinking it would be easier just to design for them, that way there's no physical objects in play, just digital goods.

Other idea I had was to establish a shop over there and hire Americans to make what I design, but how do I report my income and get taxed accordingly?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

  • Attending a Junior College with a B1/B2 visa?

A friend moved to the US back in '08 with a B1/B2 visa and attended my High School. Now that we have graduated he's looking to attending a Junior College and subsequently a 4-year university and maybe a masters. He has always kept his I-94 valid, so technically he's never been illegally here. He's aware that he can't get FAFSA help and his dad is willing to pay regular tuition, but since he showed his visa at the Admin. Office he got basically marked for life as a non-resident and thus has to pay out-of-state tuition (which is 800% higher!), and on top of that can't take college transfer courses. He heard about the DREAM Act and I've done my fair bit of research and I think he applies, but I'm not completely sure. He should be able to be a resident since it says that if he has a high school diploma (which he does) he should be able to count as a resident.

Is there a way he can get resident tuition and can take regular classes? Can he re-enroll and just don't show his visa this time around?

Please help me help him, he's a really nice guy, clean record and all.

We live in CA, in case that helps.

  • Parents won't let her date (yet), went to prom with her, now what?

    Hello

I met this girl about 1 1/2 months ago. We really hit it off and usually talk a few  (2-4) hours on fb everyday. We've talked on the phone like 4 times for similar periods of time.

I wanted to ask her to prom, but since knew her parents won't let her date since something went wrong on her last relationship, I asked her parents if I could ask her to prom.  I got a yes from both and yesterday I took her to prom.

I brought sushi over to her house and we had dinner alone, then her dad drove us to prom. We had a lot of fun, danced a lot. She would grab my hands, interlocking fingers and make me dance with her. We also did some slow dancing.

After that my aunt was supposed to pick us up, but being nice, she just dropped off a car for me to take her anywhere we wanted to go. I offered her my coat and she took it, then she fell asleep in the car. We went to Denny's (only place open at that time) and shared a milkshake (cliche, I know). She posted "Prom was the s***. Now off to Denny's with my [my name] :)". Then she took a pic of the shake and posted it with the caption "sharing a milkshake :)" and tagged me in it.

Before all of this we both admitted we "think I'm probably, maybe falling for you" (lyrics from a song she sent me). But now I know for sure that I really like her.

We're both I'm HS, I'm graduating and she still has some to go.

Her profile pic is a pic her mom took us before prom.

I already asked her out, got a yes, but her parents think she's not ready yet.

Should I admit to her that I really like her? Tell her in person or is messaging ok? Should I just pretend it was just a good night with a good friend?

Thanks for any advice you may have!

  • Finally asked out the girl I've been talking to for the past month, but she says her parents won't let her date?

I've been talking to this girl for the past month or so. I asked her to prom, but beforehand I asked her parents of they were ok with it and they said yes, and so did she. We hang out a lot at school, mostly with her friends, she's introduced me to a lot of her friends and most of them say either "so this is (my name)??" or (mostly her guy friends) they give me some kind of dirty look.

I went to the movies with her and her friends and nothing really happened (before I asked her to prom). Went to Starbucks a week later by ourselves and nothing really happened either (after I asked her to prom), but she did check in on FB saying that she was with me.

We message almost every day, she got her phone taken away so FB chat mostly, but she's texted me from her dads phone and several of her friends. We have talked on the phone too, but for shorter periods of time (3 hours was the longest).

I finally made my move an asked her out on Thursday. I pulled the "will you go out with me? Yes - Smile, No - Do a backflick" and all she did was say "Awwwww" and turned to me and gave me a huge smile. Then she told me that she had to ask her parents. Later that day I talked to her friend and she said that after I left her at her classroom she told one of her guy friends about it, she said she almost peed her pants and her heart was beating really hard, and that the poor guy didn't know what to do and tried to calm her down.

That night she sends me this message: "My parents don't think I'm ready to date yet. Since something happened between me and my ex that I'm still in trouble for. My mom said "not right now" and my dad just doesn't think I'm ready yet. I mean I really want to date you but trust me there's NO way we can do it without their permission. It would be too hard. If we wait a little longer though, they'll let me. We just would have to be really patient about it."

    And I responded this:

"That's fine. For you I can wait forever."

She replied: "Awwww <3 Thanks so much for understanding <3"

What should I do? I do like this girl a lot.

Prom is in a week, if that matters at all.

She's younger than me, but we are both in HS.

  • First Prom, what am I doing right and what am i doing wrong? (also, hair advice!)?

Personally I love my suit and I think it fits just perfect. I need a tie to go with my date's dress. All I know is that is a golden dress and she sent me the pic of her heels, any advice on what kind of tie? I was thinking a golden tie with some kind of small squared pattern.

Also, my hair sucks, it doesnt stay down without a powerful hair gel, any advice on a nice buzz cut or something?

Being that this is my first prom, how does the corsage and all of that work? She said she was going to get me one and asked for a color and a flower, but I told her I would tell her later.

  • I don't know where this is going?

Met this girl earlier in the year but didn't really got close until about 2 weeks ago and really started to hang out a lot since Monday. She's 14 (way too mature for her age, i thought she was 16-17 when i met her) and I just turned 18. Since Monday we hang out at school a LOT (before school, after 2nd, lunch with her friends, after 5th and for a few mins after school). She's introduced me to a lot of her friends, all the guys look at me weird, all of the girls just wave at me, some have said "wait, this is THE (my name)".

Apparently her last relationship didn't end up well (she calls him "the douchebag") and her parents won't let her date yet. She has mentioned that she has mentioned me to her mom. We used to message a lot on fb (until midnight or later) but I got her in trouble so she's been calling me at night and we talk for a few hours.

She hugs me hello and goodbye every time we meet and so far she's fine with me touching her lower back, putting my arm around her while we walk and I've sporadically touched her legs. We haven't held hands yet, let alone make out.

Yesterday we went to the movies (first time we met outside of school) with her BFF, bff's sister, bff's brother and his gf. We sat next to each other, i was on her right and her bff was on her left and she kept leaning towards her friend. She put her hand on the arm rest and i tried caressing it to see if she wanted to hold hands, but she just let her hand sit there and eventually moved it away. Honestly I thought it wasn't a good date, but posted that i had fun on fb anyways and she liked it. Then she called me and we talked for a few hours again.

And she just called right now...

Where do you think this is going? Should I try to hold her hand next time I see her? Put my arm around her waist next time we walk together? I don't want to have the "so, where is this going?" convo.

Also, as a bonus question, should I ask her to prom?

  • Asked her out, got a yes, but it doesn't feel like it?

I asked this girl out a week ago (Friday 13) and got a yes. We haven't gone out yet. She doesn't always answer my texts or messages on fb, and I'm cool with that cause sometimes I forget to text/message people back. But when we're at school she feels distant, like she's not interested in me. All I got today was a "hey", "how was your weekend", and (I offered her some of my chocolate) "no, thanks". I texted her after school and she just replied "hi", then I asked her how she was and I haven't gotten a response yet.

Am I coming off too strong?

I thought about sending her a message that says something like this:

    "Hey

Are you still interested in me? I ask that because I feel like you barely give me any attention(feel distant). If you want me to stop texting you or looking for you after class just tell me and I will."

    Please help me!!

  • Dating a German exchange student, but it doesn't feel like it?

    Hey

Last Friday I pulled the awesome stunt of having some balloons delivered to her in the middle of class and asked her out is perfect Yahoo answers provided German. I didn't get an answer but she hugged me like crazy. She went to a friends cabin for the 3-day weekend and I didn't talk to her at all.

Tuesday comes and I tell her that she never answered my question and she said "yes". I then ask if she wanted to go out Wednesday and she says she has to study, and on thursday I went on vacations to Mexico and stayed there for the weekend.

The thing is that when I talk to her she smiles and flirts and what not, but if someone else is there she backs off, doesn't stand next to me and barely looks at me. She's kinda shy, but as far as I know she's had boyfriends before (she could have lied). She doesn't always text or message me back, but when she does she puts all kinds of emoticons.

I know it's barely been a week, but how should I act? Is it just that she's not that comfortable with it so far?

Any advise would be appreciated, thanks.

  • Foreign friend got a traffic violation, got a court date, what now (CA)?

A mexican friend ran a stop sign and got pulled over. He hander over his valid license from Mexico and the officer told him he couldn't legally drive. He then proceeded to write him up for:

    12500(a) cvc - unlicensed driver

    22450(a) cvc - stop sign

I was told that under V C Section 12502 he can drive I was also told (by John S) that if he goes to court and presents his valid driver's license and visa they would drop that charge. But he also said to "make a complaint to the officer's employing department, since the officer obviously does not know the law."

Will this drop the stop sign violation?

How much is the stop sign violation fine?

How does this work? So, we show up and explain our case? or just walk in and plead "not guilty"?

I also got a letter saying that I must reply in some way, the first option is bail, which is $626, what should I do?

    Thanks for the help!

  • Original Wayfareres or New Wayfarers?

I bought the cheap $5 ones from Amazon and I loved how they looked on me. Now I feel like I deserve myself some real Ray-Bans, not because of the brand name, but because of the eye protection they offer compared to the cheap ones. I am planning on wearing this most of the time (as long as it's sunny outside, but I live in California so...sun most of the year!). But I can't decide between the RB 2140 50 mm (original) or the RB 2132 55mm (new). I went to my local Sunglass Hut and tried both, but I like them both, the tilt on the original bother me a little, but it's ok. I took pics and will link them. Please be honest!

  • A foreign friend got a ticket and court date, what should he do? (CA)?

    Hi

A friend of mine is visiting from Mexico, he has a visa, so his presence in this country is legal. I let him use my wife's car while he's here, but one morning while driving he got pulled over. Apparently something itched inside his sock and he wasn't really paying attention, he was going ~15 MPH and ran through a stop sign. The cop pulled him over and asked for his license and registration. He handed over the car's registration and his Mexican driver's license (which is current and in English). The cop then proceeded to tell him he couldn't drive and called me to pick him up and wrote him a court date.

    He's cited for:

    12500(a) cvc - unlicensed driver

    22450(a) cvc - stop sign

The stop sign violation is indisputable, he ran through it, he broke the law, he knows he might have to pay a fine. Our problem is the "Unlicensed driver", he has a license, and as far as i know, it's OK to drive with a foreign license if you're, you know, foreign! A friend told me that that is why he got a court date and not just a ticket.

Also, he has to go back to Mexico in early January and the court date is for Jan. 24, and I don't think he might be able to get off from work, fly here, go to court and get back, it's not only time consuming, but think about how much that's gonna cost him!

Also, if you could give me some advise in how to battle this ticket, how much could it be, if we can reschedule for an earlier court date, and if this is going to affect his legal status as a tourist?

    Thanks for your help.

PS - I live in Northern California.

  • How to ask a girl to Winter Formal in German?

Hi, i recently met a german exchange student and i really like her. I was thinking about asking her to the Winter Formal, but im not sure how to say it and i dont trust google translate! I took a year of german and I flunked, but i learned some stuff, so pronunciation shouldnt be an issue. Also, im not sure what to do once she (hopefully) says "yes". Should I take her somewhere before formal? Maybe a nice restaurant? Should i try to match my suit with her dress?

This is my first school dance too, so any advice will be appreciated!

  • She said she just likes me as a friend, now what?

I told her I liked her, she said I was like a brother to her and didn't want to ruin our friendship (ouch),asked if I was mad, and I said no,and I wasn't.I wasn't happy but not mad either. Monday came and I didn't talk to her,I didn't ignore her,I just never tried to talk to her or approached her.She texted me in the afternoon and asked why I was avoiding her and told me that I said that that wasn't going to ruin our friendship (I never said it), replied that I wasn't avoiding her and that I never had a chance to talk to her. Then she asked why I didn't hang out with her and I said that it wasn't because of her, but because some of these two guys that started hanging out with her (both of them cockblocking one-upper nerds that had never talked to a girl before and try to impress her all the time, thats mean I know, but it's true). We kept texting about what kind of food I was getting and once she replied "ok yeah" I never texted her back.

Comes the next day and I see her in the hallway and approach her and give her a hug, she gave me a forced hug and turned immediately away (double ouch), so I didn't even try to hang out with her that day. After school I was hanging out with the cockblocking nerds (if there's no girls around they are rather nice) and this other girl (Girl b), girl b walks away and the nerds ask for a hug, she turns around and just gives me a hug, as girl b was walking towards me she walked out of the building, I saw her coming, but ignored her (just to see what happened) and gave the girl b a hug and (to further ignore her)started playing with girl b's hands, she then tapped my shoulder and I turned around and hugged me and said bye.

Today I got two hugs from her, one after our class (in which I didn't talk to her)and one after school (she hugged nerd 1,nerd 2,then me, I was the one further sways from her).Should I just start talking to her normally again?Or just keep going with my "you're not that important to me" attitude? Haven't texted either.

  • I like her, she likes me as a friend! What should I do now? HELP!?

I met this girl in my swimming class and never really paid much attention to her. 3 weeks ago I started talking to her friend and started noticing her. Got both girls numbers and started texting to them. They knew i was texting both of them cause they told me stuff about what i told the other girl. The one I originally liked and me didn't really hit it off, but but her friend always kept the conversation going. I brought her pizza one day, but her friend took her slice and I shared my slice with her. The friday before last friday I stared hanging out with them and her other friend (all of us have swimming together) during lunch and I had a great time, so I kept hanging out with them. 3 days later another two guys from our swimming class "joined" the group, and it's just not the same. Last friday I told her i really liked her and she said I was like a brother and she didn't want to ruin our friendship (i thought to myself "FU!"), then she asked if i was mad at her and i said "no" (because I really wasn't).

Over the weekend I was kinda sad, so I didn't feel like seeing her name, but on saturday she texted me (6:30 pm) and i replied (6:40 pm), she texted me back (6:42 pm) and my phone died. I got home, charged it, turned it on, replied to her (7:30 pm) and left the phone in my room. I went to the living room and got on facebook on my laptop and started chatting with some people and time just flew. Next thing I know it's 10:30 and i noticed she texted me back, and I replied without remembering she goes to bed at 9 pm (yes, she's a sophomore, and yes, im serious). Didn't hear from her for the rest of the weekend.

Today I talked to some friends about it and they all advised me to move on and just stop talking to her, so what I'm doing is "if she doesnt talk to me, im not talking to her". So I kinda saw her during lunch, but she didn't say hi, i saw her during swimming, she was far away from me, saw her after class but on opposite side of the group, and after school she just walked passed me and some guys from our aquatics class. And when I was walking home I got a text from her saying "U hecka avoided me today! thought u said this wasnt going to ruin our friendship" And I thought to myself, "No, you said that, I just said I wasnt mad at you", but im nice and I replied to her "I didnt talk to you, thats true, but not because i didnt want to, i didnt have a chance, but i wasnt avoiding you", then she started saying that i was because i didnt hang out with her during lunch. The true reason i didnt hang out with her is because those two guys get annoying when they fight for her attention, and i didnt want to be part of that, and i told that to one of the girls that hangs out with her and she told her, but she didnt believe her until i told her about it. We kept texting about what kind of food i should get (taco bell or carls jr?) and once she replied "oh okay" i stopped texting her back.

What should I do? Keep the same "If she talks to me I'll talk to her, but if she doesn't i wont say a word" attitude? Tell her that im not really interested in a friendship? Avoid her and stop talking to her completely? How should I act around her during swimming?

Thanks and sorry its too long

  • I like her, but she says she only likes me as a friend! Now what?

I met this girl like 2 weeks ago, we started talking and texting, and last Friday I started hanging out with her friends (2 other girls) during lunch, and I liked hanging about with them, so I kept doing it, and started getting closer to her. We have a class together and have mutual friends in that class, I like the guys, but they started hanging out with us and I feel like they're cock blocking me! One of the guys has another class with her and they hang out during the first 3 passing periods, but I'm not sure if she likes him, he says he just likes her as a friend.

Today I told her that I liked her and she told me that she didn't want to ruin our friendship. That was a bit unexpected because we have shared pizza, she's always touching my arms, and she usually walks next to me...but anyways...what should I do now? Stop hanging out with her? Stop texting her? I don't want to hang out with her anymore because those guys annoy me, should I tell her it's because of them and not her??

    Thanks for your advise!

  • This girl I like just got a boyfriend, what should I do?

At the beginning of this school year she was in my Algebra II class, she and I would talk and joke, but she switched out a week later and I didn't know her name, so I hoped I would see her around campus and try to start a relationship with her. I week later I found out her name because the teacher gave us back some papers and she gave me hers, so once i knew her name I added her on Facebook. She accepted and we started chatting, she always answered really fast so I guess she was kind of interested in the convo (or had nothing to do). But a week ago one guy that she's known for a while asked her out and she said yes, she also changes her relationship status to "in a relationship". She hasn't posted anything but "It feels like it's been longer that 3 days. <3", the rest of her post aren't related to that.

What should I do? Should I stop talking to her? How do I avoid being friend-zoned if I keep talking to her?

I sure as hell know that I shouldn't try to break them up, but should I wait for them to break up to start talking to her again?

    Thanks.

  • Backup withholding on my bank account?

Today I got in the mail a nice little letter saying my account is subject to back up withholding. Further investigation let me to believe that since my account is a checking account that i've been using for about two years and registered only with my ID, and also has a sub-account that is a savings account to which I put money a few months ago to create sort of a "fund" for summer vacations. That fund, generated some interest, 3 cents of a dollar to be exact. And since my account doesn't have an SSN linked to it the IRS sent me a Backup Withholding notice asking me to add my SSN so I can be taxed appropriately.

The thing is, I don't want to. That's like my secret account for which no one but me has any records of (or at least I'd like to believe that).

    What should I do?

Close the account and go to a different bank?

Register my SSN with it and open an account on a different bank?

    Nothing?

I hate knowing that the IRS knows everything about me, so I'd like to keep a "private account". And no, the money I make doesn't go to that account, it is properly reported to the IRS and put into other account on a different bank.
