Has the US some kind of protection system against nuclear weapons threats from abroad?
With all the advances in technology in recent years like drones, cyberwarefare, sophisticated satellites, big data etc. it seems ilogical that the entire fate of a country like the USA, the biggest economy and by far the most advanced technology worldpower, lies in the hands of some, thousands of miles away russian, china or korean leaders with its nuclear weapons pointing to america. Does the US defense has some kind of protection system against this? I don´t know much about defense technology but it doesn´t seem too difficult to create some drone or antimisile system which could detect, track and destroy a nuclear threat before it detonates on american ground, am I right?

Yes Fran the US has some kind of protection system against nuclear weapons threats from abroad.
It's called "Mutually Assured Destruction".
If they launch nukes a us we launch nukes at them.

They still have yet to do the missile defense system fully, but that just means the fallout would end up elsewhere missile hitting missile.
And the star wars program was halted do to a treaty with Russia, where our satellites could destroy/disable icbms i before they went back to earth.
But have heard we can detect nuke launches and nukes going off anywhere in the world, but we don't have a fool proof system to stop things currently.

No system can easily intercept nuclear weapons coming towards our homeland, unfortunately. We do have nuclear weapons in case other nation tries to nuke us then we would do it in return.

Literally 100% of the Democrat caucus has always demanded it be ILLEGAL for us to have - or even to try to develop - any sort of defense against re-entry warheads.
Consequently, we have none.
