Why has Washington DC never become a major economic hub in the US like other capital cities in the world like London, Paris or Moscow?

It´s the capital city of the biggest economy in the world, and yet it has a relatively small population and its economy is small in coparison to giants like NY, Los Angeles, Chicago or Houston. In other countries, capital cities are, if not the biggest, one of the biggest cities of their countries like London, Tokyo, Berlin, Paris or Beijing, is this because there´s a special law or system that limits on purpose the size of the city?? if so, why?? or was this process of becoming a strong political but a weak economic and population centre a random development overtime?? thanks!!

New York had access to Europe and communications with the rest of USA in a way Washington never did, also the Banks were already there, when Washington was still a swamp, plus New York had trade and commerce, long before Washington.

As pointed out Washington is an administrative area.

London was not only where Parliament met, but a major port, so did trade, big trade, hence the banks starting there.

Chicago, San Francisco et al were built on trade and commerce, so had big banks.

Berlin is not the centre of banking for Germany, because of the cold war, and Germany being divided in two, so Frankfurt became the Banking centre, again through trade, and currently holds Europe's balls in its hands.

When Frankfurt squeezes Europe's balls, Brussels eyes pop, and it does as it is told, hence all the calamities of the Euro, what suits Frankfurt doesn't suit the Greeks or Portuguese?

Wall street in New York began to draw the big broking houses and is the centre of the stock exchange. Everything else followed, including large banks.

If not for New York it could just as easily been Los Angeles or Philadelphia instead of Washington.

In many countries across the world the nation capital is not the largest city.

It's the same in Canada and Brazil. Probably, it has something to do with the US, Canada and Brazil being young nations. But there are other reasons for choosing a relatively small city as their capital. A similar situation is in Switzerland. In former West Germany the capital used to be Bonn, a small town. Probably small cities are considered safer and more convenient for government offices in some countries. In former West Germany one of the reasons was geopolitical, related to the military.

DC is not even a city, but a district of administration. In the US, the financial and stock markets have been built traditionally in the other city, especially in NY.

It's not the capital of productive activity, it's the capital of parasitic activity, in case you haven't noticed.
